This week's photo was taken during my visit to Iceland in 2015. The Icelandic landscape offers some incredible views, with spectacular colours. At the same time, one can easily find emptiness that is best rendered in black in white.
The two "Humps of frozen lava", on the left-middle, provide the scene with some depth. The dark line at about 1/3 from the bottom, creates an impression as if the bottom 1/3 is not part of the scene. As it two photos are mixed. However, once the eye "accepts" it as being part of the scene, it further stresses the depth of the landscape, while also adding an almost "un-earthly" atmosphere.
In post, next to "reducing" the photo to black & white, I slightly increased the contrasts.
