One of critics at 1x.com suggested to strengthen the foreground by changing the photo's perspective to make the stones in the front appear bigger, and by further sharpening the foreground. The result shown above is the result of applying these suggestions. Would indeed say that it improves the composition. On the one hand, as some of the stones have now been removed, there is even more "silence" in the photo. On the other hand, the remaining stones in the foreground do indeed look bigger.
