A few weeks ago, my wife and I visited Portugal. This time, we also paid a visit to the Castle of Almourol, which is a medieval castle. The castle is located on a small island in the Tagus river, and was part of the defensive line controlled by the Knights Templar, and a stronghold used during the Portuguese Reconquista.

To get to the castle, one needs to take a short boat ride. This photo was taken during our ride towards the castle. We were lucky to have a nice sky with some nice movements in the clouds. It was already late afternoon, so the light was already getting softer. To strengthen the effect of the sky, and add a bit to the medieval atmosphere, I decided to render the photo in black in white. In doing so, I also increased the contrast, to bring out the structure of the sky.
