This photo was also taken from the air over Sossusvlei, during my recent visit to Namibia. The red sand dunes in combination with the shadows and different colours of sand, provide a nice environment to find interesting patterns. 

The above pattern reminds me of a leaf. A sand leaf (in fall colours) one might say. The lines in the sand give the association of the veins of the leaf.

In post, I did use the de-haze filter in Lightroom, while using PhotoShop to "drag" out part of the right bottom image to get rid of some shades. Also lightened some of the shades on the left side, as they were too distracting to my taste.
